Podcast Episode #81: How to Get to Inbox Zero (and Stay There) w/ Heather Heuman
12-18-2018
Back in 2015 I was attending a conference and we had gone out to dinner after the day's sessions. I pulled out my phone and the person sitting next to me just happened to see that I had 27,000 emails in my inbox. To say they were shocked would be an understatement.
After that I decided to take control of my inbox and with the help of my assistant, we have developed a system that got the inbox to zero and has kept it there for several months.
Here it is……Do it. Delete it. Delegate it.
Pretty simple. Either respond to what the email is asking to you do, delete it or delegate it to someone.
Another great way I've kept my inbox empty is through folders that are designated for VERY specific things. Some of the folders I have include…Leads, Leads that Said No, Receipts, Clients, etc. Having these folders keeps the emails out of the inbox but also allows me to easily find them later when I need them.
I also love using Boomerang inside Gmail. Do you utilize this great feature? It's a Gmail extension that allows you to schedule emails to come back into your inbox as a reminder to follow up or take additional action. #LifeSaver
Boomerang Gmail Extension: Free up to 10 ‘boomeranged' emails/month, otherwise $5/month
