When Hiring – How do I know Who to Trust?

 

I recently received an email from a podcast listener who shared with me that she's wanting to hire a business coach to help her get started in business. Here's part of her letter to me (with permission to share)…

“I found a woman who claims to be able to teach everything I would need to set up a business and even get clients. Her fee is $6,300 for six weeks. That was just so out of my financial comfort zone. Then, recently I found another lady who claims the same but her fee is $2,000 (now 50% off of 4,000). Neither one claim to work for Jesus the way you do. I know it doesn’t mean they don’t believe. I would love to do my work for Jesus. My question is how do I know who to trust? Is this the right path for me? I apologize if this is not the place to lay this down but you drew me in.

First off I want to say, it's important for those of us who love to Lord to take time to seek Him and be open to His possibilities that might be wildly different from ours.

From my experience, here are a few things I would ask and consider if I found myself in a place like Donna finds herself : 

1. Why are you pursuing this specific type of business? Are you chasing after it or do you feel the Lord is presenting this opportunity? Where is the place that our gifts and talents intersect with our experience and our passions.
2. Look for the fruit. Ask, ‘What is this person able to help me do?'. Do they have testimonials and case studies of how they've been able to help other people?

I love being able to support Kingdom businesses and I pray that as you journey through entrepreneurship that you find those you need to be aligned with and those you need to have be a part of your growth.
