What You Need for Your Social Media Strategy
Whether you've been showing up on social media for years or you're brand new to showcasing what your business is about, I believe these 10 steps can be applicable to you. As business owners, we cannot show up haphazardly on social media and expect amazing results. You might get lucky from time to time but it's important that you develop a plan and a strategy for how you're going to use social media to the best of your ability.
Here are the first 10 steps you need to build out a social media strategy plan :
- Define your business goals : Social media can help reach those goals but you first need to define what they are
- Know your audience : this is something you hear A LOT but not knowing who you want to serve, what their needs and struggles are and how YOU can serve them will cause a lot of headaches for you!
- Know your expertise : you can only ‘fake it until you make it' for so long when it comes to social media. At some point you need to know what you offer and own who you are and what you bring to the table
- Know what sets you apart : what makes you different from the person next to you? We don't have to be different in every way but what are teethings that make you unique compared to the others in the same niche as you?
- Nail down your offers : well defined offers avoid confusion and allow people to make a decision about you easily. A confused person will never buy.
- Create social media goals that help you accomplish your business goals : we can't be haphazardly shooting arrows in the dark. Know your business goals (see number 1) and then create social media goals that will help you achieve what you want to see in your business
- Pick the social media platforms you will show up on : Once you know who your audience is, it's then important to know where you can find them. Maybe there is a particular social media platform they are more active on. Find the platform and then put your time and energy there.
- Identify your content : you can't always be sharing other people's content. What do you want to be known for and what kind of content can you product to communicate that? Do you prefer video, photos, lives? You decide what will allow you to be the best action taker.
- Sort your content into buckets : Develop categories that will make content creation easier
- Use the 85 / 15 rule : this is a spinoff of the 80/20 rule as I tend to want to be a generous giver of my time. Spend 85% of your content adding value and have 15% of your content be selling your product or offer
