Are you ready to truly let God grow your business with social media?
One of the first steps (and one of the most important, in my opinion) that you need to take is really understanding how to use social media. So many business owners avoid dealing with the monster that can be social media – they get frustrated and overwhelmed with the options, the times, the number of posts.
I get it, you’re one that prays about your business decisions, and your business growth…but so far you’ve not found a solution for this problem. But what if that’s why you’re here? What if that’s why God has connected us?
This is why I put together 7 Ways to Grow Your Business with Social Media – this resource gives you the 7 most effective tools you can use to grow your social presence in less than 10 minutes a day (yes, really).
Are you willing to boldly say yes, even if it feels like maybe it's a little outside of your comfort zone? My 7 simple ways is a great place to start, because I know that for many of you guys, if your business were to grow 5%, 10%, 50%, it could truly transform your life.
Not just YOUR life, it would probably impact many other people. Your wife, your husband, your spouse, your kids, your parents, the people around you. I don't know about you guys, but I believe that as Christian business owners, it is a blessing to be able to grow our businesses so we can then have more financial income to be able to have increased revenue so we can be more generous so we can live more intentionally and help other people. You may prefer to grow your business with live events, on social media or a combination of both.
But I'm going to tell you a little bit about my journey. And the reason I want to tell you this is so you don't think that the business I have created was handed to me.
Or that it happened overnight.
I love sweet tea and absolutely love business, and I have seen social media transform my life and I know that it's not unique to me, but I know that some people just need some help to know how social media can help them in their businesses also. So if I'm going to tell you a little bit about my journey, I'm going to have to go back a little bit probably to around 1997 when I graduated from college with a degree in special education and I became a school teacher. Life happened, which included an emotionally abusive relationship. I was married when I was a sophomore in college, and it was honestly a very, very destructive relationship. I ultimately found myself completely broken, completely abandoned and divorced at the age of 25. Circumstances led me moving from Georgia to Hilton Head, South Carolina, where I ended up taking a job working for a grocery store chain that I had previously worked for all through college to pay the bills.
Have you ever taken a job? Just because it was there and there was a paycheck. I loved the work and actually enjoyed hanging out with the people. I loved doing the hiring and the firing of the cashiers and the baggers and running the entire front end of this $400,000 per week company. The surprising reality is I made a shift in 2000 (and maybe not for what you might think) but I took an $18,000 pay cut because I wanted to work normal hours. I wanted to work Monday through Friday, eight to five because I hadn't worked those hours in such a long time and that is what I was striving for. God, however; in that process, took this girl that had become the office manager, that then became promoted to become the project manager, that then became an apprentice in the web design department, the graphic design department……Do you see where this is going?
I had an opportunity to work with a huge corporate clients like Wilson Sports and Subway and working on their branding in their graphic design projects and I was able to get in the weeds and see how these companies were growing their brands, in growing their exposure with the power of digital marketing. But if I tell you the rest of the story was just all easy and cupcakes, that would not be true. I remarried in 2002 to an amazing man, which is my now husband, and we have three kids. We live in South Carolina and during that process and my husband joined the military/ I was a Pampered Chef consultant and director. I loved sales and really enjoyed that process and I feel that my life today was greatly enhanced by my experience in sales working with Pampered Chef.
In 2010 went to graduate school and got a Master's in Management and Leadership, might I add while my kids were ages five, two and one. I realized for the first time that I loved business, but not what the world had told me business was, which is going and getting a corporate job and working somewhere else, clocking in and leaving and going home. I loved the idea of business, of being my own boss. I had a taste of that when I worked for Pampered Chef, but that was still someone else's business.
While I was in graduate school, I realized I wanted to take my gifts and the skillset I had learned through all those military moves, and I brought people together from different cities in different backgrounds and said, “Hey, we've got this thing in common. We're parents, we're all over here in Germany. We don't know anybody, so let's come together.” or “Hey, this is where you can go and kids can eat for free on this night. I loved bringing people together and I loved connecting.
So in 2011 while we lived in a really small town in Kentucky, I built my business from scratch. Let me actually shift that right now. God helped me grow my business with social media. I made a website and I used Facebook and Twitter to grow my business to become a six-figure business in three years. Loved it, but what happened next is a God thing. I slowly began getting businesses and Chamber of Commerce's, restaurants, you name it, coming to me and saying, “Hey, we want to know how you're using social media to get this engagement and these results. Can you help us?”
So then began this journey of consulting, doing strategy, planning, speaking and talking to businesses on how they could also leverage the power of social media.
Fast forward to another transition and our family has moved yet again. We found ourselves living in South Carolina, my hometown. God, I was so thankful, but I was scared because everything I had built was over here in this small town in Kentucky. How can I take my gifts, my skillset, and leverage it when life happens? Have you ever had that happen in your life? Everything that I'd done since 2014 with my Sweet Tea Social marketing brand has been from scratch, building a global brand and saying, “I'm going to leverage the Internet and social media to get clients all around the world and help them”. Then I transitioned once again and said,” God, I truly see myself as a digital missionary. I want to come alongside and help other Christian business owners so they then can shine their light for Christ in the way they treat people and the way that they engage with people. And they can do it with Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter.”
And so I want to invite each and every one of you to know that my desire is to come and still be a teacher, just like when I pursued a degree in education in college. It just looks differently than how I thought it was going to be inside of a formal traditional classroom. I want to make myself available to help you.
