Twitter replaced the use of stars for ‘favorites' in exchange for hearts for ‘likes'.
This comes behind recent changes to the Twitter Moments that launched October 2015.
Over the last several months Twitter has been working on making their interface user-friendly for people that are new to Twitter.
Now some of us love Twitter and really ‘get it'. But there are others that attempt to check out Twitter and they are left with a feeling of not being sure who to follow, what exactly they are doing and what to do next.
The use of the star wasn't as clear to newcomers to Twitter, so this is an attempt by Twitter to make the experience of using Twitter to be as simple as possible.
The new language of ‘like' with the hearts may be more clear to people because when we think of favorite, we think of limited things we'd call our favorite. However, we can ‘like' many things.
The new display shows a heart and indicates a ‘like'.
Since the hearts option for likes was working so well on Periscope, Twitter has decided to carry over that heart idea to Twitter's platform.
For the overall functionality this doesn't change much on Twitter. However if this makes the Twitter experience better for newcomers then the change will be a good move for the social media giant.
What do you think of the hearts? Do you like it better than the star?
I look forward to seeing your comments below.
